Fiddler on the Roof

Saturday,August 11, 2012

Fiddler on the Roof was the first Broadway musical to surpass a 3000 performance run after opening in 1964. Based on the book by Joseph Stein, it is set in Tsarist Russia in 1905. It is the story of Tevye, the father of five daughters, who struggles to maintain his family and Jewish traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives. He must cope with the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters and the edict of the Tsar that evicts Jews from their village. This heart-wrenching yet funny musical has won nine Tony Awards including best actor, director and choreography.
