DAY 1 – Sunday, April 1, 2012

Welcome aboard the Cherry Blossom Special to our nation’s capital. Our destination is the Washington DC area.

DAY 2 –Monday, April 2, 2012

After breakfast, we will travel to Washington D.C. Our first stop is the World War II Memorial. The newest memorial honors the 16 million who served in the U.S. armed forces during World War II, the more than 40,000 who died and the millions who supported the war effort from home. If we are fortunate enough to catch the delicate cherry blossoms in bloom, we will devote some time to the Tidal Basin. Our second stop is the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Korean and Lincoln Memorials. Lunch will be at Union Station. This afternoon, we’ll visit the National Museum of American History and the Natural History Museum. In the afternoon we’ll visit Arlington National Cemetery, remembering all who have died for our great country. We will also visit the Tomb of the Unknowns. This evening we’ll lighten things up by enjoying refreshments at the George Washington Tavern.

DAY 3 – Tuesday, April 3, 2012

This morning we’ll visit Mount Vernon, the estate of George Washington. This is America’s most visited historic house. Mount Vernon sits on a grassy, shaded slope overlooking the Potomac River in Virginia. This southern plantation standing on the banks of the river is both George Washington’s home and his final resting place. This afternoon we’ll visit many memorials: the FDR Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the US Holocaust Memorial, the Ford Theater, the Peterson House and Union Station. Then we’ll have dinner. After dinner we’ll visit the Marine Corps War memorial and the Iwo Jima Statue - one of the largest bronze statues ever sculpted. This statue depicts an American Flag being raised on Mount Suribachi during World War II, and commemorates all Marines who have been in battle since 1775. This evening, we’ll visit the new U.S. Air Force Memorial. The memorial is bold, graceful and truly representative of the Air Force. Central to its design are three stainless steel spires that soar skyward. The highest of the spires ascends 270 feet above the three-acre elevated promontory site. You can see the Pentagon from the Air Force Memorial.

DAY 4 – Wednesday, April 4, 2012

This morning, our first stop will be the U.S. Capital Building with our local guide. Our Second stop will be the Smithsonian Museum. We’ll then visit the National Air and Space Museum’s Arts and Industries Building, the American Indian Museum, the National Portrait gallery, the Botanical Gardens, and much more.

DAY 5 – Thursday, April 5, 2012

Today, we will travel back home from our memorable visit in Washington DC.
